Our nails go through a constant cycle of wear and tear each and every day: crafts, nail biting, smoking, frequent work in water. The environment and our daily routine make them weaker and more sensitive, making them quite brittle. Castor oil for nails is the best natural remedy for beautiful, healthier nails.

Why Take Care of Your Nails?
What happens when we DON’T take care of our nails? Not only will it make your hands look bad but it can also become really painful. Your nails will look very different if they are not taken care of.
They can split or be cracked or even present an abnormal increase of their natural streak. Very often they will be soft, almost translucent. On a daily basis, this means nails will cling to your clothes and we all know how annoying and painful that is.
In order to prevent this from happening, no need to say that it is essential to take care of your nails. You can adopt simple solutions that will greatly improve the health of your nails:
- Hydrate your hands each time they are exposed to water
- Wear gloves when working in water or with detergents
- Cut your nails short and file them often
If you add castor oil for your nails, this will greatly contribute to their general health: they will look and feel beautiful!
Still not convinced? Did you know that a fingernail takes about 6 months to renew itself? (12 months for toenails). Better take care of them then, don’t you think? 😉
How Castor Oil Works on Your Nails
Castor oil has a dual action: it acts directly on the nail itself but also on the surrounding skin (cuticle). Applying castor oil will relieve the pain of torn cuticles, heal your nails, and reinforce them for optimized growth.
The antifungal and antibacterial properties of castor oil will help you get rid of the impurities on the nail (and skin) that slow down its natural development (1).
Ricinoleic acid (the omega 9 contained in castor oil), will then repair the nail and the skin (2). After a few applications, the cuticle is less sensitive and the nail already feels and appears much stronger.
Benefits of Castor Oil for Nails
Including castor oil in your nail care routine is a brilliant idea to look after your cuticles. Here are the benefits of doing so.
Hydration and Nourishment of Nails
Castor oil is a wonderful natural moisturizer. It cleans impurities from your nails and nourishes them deeply. The oil also hydrates your cuticles and forms a barrier layer to protect from environmental damage.
How To Use?
Soak a cotton ball in castor oil and gently apply it on your nails.
Strengthen Fingernails
The anti-fungal and anti-bacterial action of castor oil provides strength to your nails. This further helps in preventing weak and brittle nails.
How To Use?
Clean your nails and apply a few drops of castor oil on it. Now massage your nails and leave them overnight.
How to Apply Castor Oil for Nails
So how do you apply castor oil for nails? A simple solution consists in buying or emptying and cleaning a nail polish bottle. You can then add your castor oil in it and gently apply on your nail like you would with any ordinary nail polish.
This solution gives you the best accuracy and it’s really easy to evenly distribute the oil over your nail and cuticle. Some companies offer ready to go solutions but they are oftentimes way overpriced! Save some money and do it yourself.
The second solution that also works like a charm (even if it looks less professional) is to simply use a q-tip. That’s how I started and I was pretty happy with it (until I tried the first solution).
Whatever solution you decide to go with, here are my recommendations:
- Apply the oil on your nails and make sure not to forget any little corner.
- Let the oil sit for 30 minutes and wash off the excess afterward.
- Repeat 3 to 4 times a week for best results.
I personally like to massage in the castor oil on my nail and surrounding cuticle/skin. This heats up the castor oil which gives a deeper level of nourishment to your skin and nail.
Castor Oil for Nails | My Boosted Recipe!
Castor oil is a thick oil. Applying it isn’t always easy. I do apply it pure but I also tried an awesome mix to improve the effects on my nails.
Here is the recipe:
- Mix half a dose of castor oil to half a dose of olive oil in a bowl (1-2 teaspoons are usually enough as the surface of all your nails combined remains pretty small)
- Add a few drops of a lemon juice or 1 drop of lemon essential oil
- Stir well
Now you can let your fingers sit in this mixture or apply it directly to your nails. 15 to 30 minutes should do the trick.
