What Is Jamaican Black Castor Oil?

How Do You Apply Jamaican Black Castor Oil

You may have heard of castor oil– the thick, odorless oil made from the seeds of the castor plant. It is produced by pressing the castor seed, which releases a liquid with valuable fatty acids and compounds. But what is Jamaican black castor oil?

Regular castor oil and Jamaican black castor oil are extracted from the same plant; only the process of obtaining the final product makes them different.

Castor oil is produced by cold pressing the seeds, and it gives out a light yellow oil. On the other hand, Jamaican black castor oil is produced by pressing the roasted castor seeds. This process of roasting results in darker-colored oil with a higher pH value.

Fun Fact: While Jamaican black castor oil is often used for its benefits, it’s not technically an “essential oil” in the same sense as lavender or tea tree oil. Essential oils are highly concentrated aromatic compounds extracted from plants, and Jamaican black castor oil is a pressed oil.
