The first thing to understand about Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) is that it mainly differs from the usual castor oil in its production process. While the latter is extracted from the beans of the castor oil plant, JBCO is obtained after roasting the castor beans, followed by the boiling and extraction processes.

The roasting process incorporates ash into the JBCO, giving it a darker color and making it thicker, while cold-pressed castor oil remains thinner and slightly yellow. The ash also makes JBCO more alkaline and gives it some more nutritional benefits.

Of course, you can! Like cold-pressed yellow castor oil, JBCO has a wide range of health benefits, from being a remedy for hair and skin issues to helping the gut function better.

The most important part about consuming JBCO is following the recommended dosage, which depends on your age, existing medical condition, and allergies. Generally, the recommended dose for adults to treat gut problems like constipation is 15 to 60 ml a day. That is equal to one to three teaspoons.

You can also mix it with another beverage to mask the thick texture and strong nutty aroma. Unless you have specific allergies to castor oil, you can drink Jamaican black castor oil as per the proper dosage.

Do’s and Don’ts of Drinking Jamaican Black Castor Oil

  • You must always ensure that you use 100% pure-quality JBCO obtained by traditional methods for the best results and no unwanted side effects.
  • If you are not sure about the right dosage, read the instructions carefully and consult a pharmacist or a healthcare professional.
  • Consume the oil orally, and do not increase the dosage by yourself. You must also not consume JBCO for seven consecutive days unless explicitly instructed by your doctor.
  • Always consume the oil on an empty stomach and not before bed, as it can work quite fast.
  • In case of overdosing and experiencing side effects like nausea, cramping, vomiting, or diarrhea, seek medical help immediately.
  • If you are pregnant or have allergies or any other medical condition, been for constipation relief, avoid using JBCO without consulting your doctor first.

That’s it. Just keep these things in mind, and you can consume it safely. Do let us know if you know any other way to consume Jamaican black castor oil in the comments below!
