Here is an alarming fact–every one of us has parasites. But before you start worrying, you must understand that not all parasites are bad. If you didn’t already know, our gut has a whole ecosystem of bacteria. These are generally good bacteria that help regulate the digestive system. The problem starts when harmful parasites affect your gut, causing infestation and infections.

There is also quite an easy and affordable solution to these–food-grade castor oil. Here’s how to use castor oil for deworming kids, adults, and even dogs.

Causes and Symptoms of Worms

Some of the most common ways that you can get parasites like worms is by ingesting infected food, especially raw meat, and by drinking polluted water. Not washing hands after using the bathroom is also a cleanliness hazard and can lead to the spread of the microscopic eggs of parasites.

Though parasites do not pose a fatal threat unless it is a very serious infestation, it can cause various uncomfortable symptoms. For example, if you, your child, or even your pet has worms, it won’t be surprising to experience unexplained digestive issues, constant hunger, teeth grinding during sleep, nausea, and unknown anxiety symptoms.

What Does Deworming Mean?

Deworming

As a self-explanatory term, deworming can either be really easy or might take a bit of effort. Some people can deworm just by changing their diet to healthier choices and cutting down on junk food or sugar.

Since worms tend to attack people with a weaker immune system, switching to a healthier lifestyle can help a great deal. However, others might need to use slightly more powerful (but still inexpensive) methods like castor oil.

The same properties that make castor oil a good laxative are also effective in removing worms from the system. It acts as a detoxifying agent, helping eliminate unwanted intestinal parasites. Whether you, your kids, or your dog is suffering from worms, using castor oil can be really useful. Here’s how.

1. Castor Oil For Deworming Kids

Unripe papaya and castor oil can be the perfect combo to get rid of worms in kids. The former contains latex with enzymes that are excellent for expelling intestinal worms.

You’ll have to mix a tablespoon each of raw papaya juice and honey in a bit of warm water. Give this to your kid, and make sure you give it after an hour-long fast–they shouldn’t take any solid foods.

After 1-2 hours of giving it, give your kid a glass of warm milk mixed with half a tablespoon of castor oil. You’ll see the effect in 2-3 days.

Note: This is an old remedy and might work for some, but there is no scientific evidence to support it. If your child has symptoms of parasitic infection, consult a healthcare provider. They can diagnose the specific parasite and recommend appropriate medication. Modern deworming medications are generally safe and effective for children.

2. Castor Oil For Deworming Adults

Adults who have a weak immune system due to underlying autoimmune conditions are generally prone to worms. The first option to get rid of these is to take a spoonful of castor oil three days in a row and repeat this once again in three months–don’t worry, it’s safe. During this time, you must stick to a proper diet with no raw fruits or vegetables and keep your meals minimal.

For complete detoxification of your gut, you could drink a mix of three teaspoons of castor oil in a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Follow this up with drinking two glasses of warm water every 15-30 minutes till you feel the need to use the restroom.

This detox flush is extremely effective in getting rid of all toxins in your body, provided you completely avoid raw and junk foods. Repeat this flush every month for the best results.

3. Castor Oil For Deworming Dogs

Dogs can often show symptoms similar to humans in a worm infestation, including diarrhea, low energy, nausea, and even dry hair. The most obvious signs will be scooting and visible worms in feces.

The remedy to get rid of worms in your pet is adding half a teaspoon of coconut flakes for every pound of your dog’s body weight to their food, followed up with 1/8th of a teaspoon of castor oil (per pound of body weight) every 2 hours. Don’t worry; castor oil is safe for pets.

Dried, unsweetened coconut flakes are rich in triglycerides and fiber that help expel intestinal worms. Again, castor oil has shown promise in studies for dog deworming, but it’s best to go with a vet’s opinion. Self-medicating your pet can be dangerous and could lead to complications. Always consult with a professional for the best advice and care.
